Vincent events returning to pre-pandemic glory

After two years of scaled back events and COVID cancellations, the City of Vincent is welcoming back a full calendar of festivals, markets and concerts.

Vincent Council approved sponsorship for a suite of events that will be held over the next 12 months.

Among the events that are being sponsored by the City is the St Patrick’s Day Festival – a celebration of Irish culture that is set to return in March after a three-year pause due to COVID.

Pride Fairday, which broke records last year with about 15,000 attendees, will return to Hyde Park in November and the Revelation Perth International Film Festival will again bring thousands of people to Leederville this winter.

The City is also supporting football matches, an art crawl, activities for kids, street food markets and even an event that celebrates our pooches.

“Cultural events are part of the fabric of Vincent and they were sorely missed over the past few years,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“It’s really important we support these events and foster community connection after a pretty gruelling period during the early stages of the pandemic.

“I’ve seen the community spirit buoyed when things have started to pick up again, with people telling me how much they have missed these opportunities to connect and celebrate.

“Our community has been embracing the opportunity to explore market stalls, share food in the streets and dance to live music.

“Never again will we take for granted the joy we get from coming together as a community to enjoy festivals, markets and concerts.

“Every single event we’re sponsoring is one I have experienced in the past or a new event that I’m confident will be a great success.”

By supporting a range of events across Vincent, the City is encouraging the activation of its town centres and public spaces, sustaining artists and the creative economy and helping community groups take the lead and leverage additional funding.

Council approved $238,000 in event and festival sponsorship at the June Council meeting.

Event spending was reduced by almost $50,000 at the meeting to make a saving for the 2022-23 Budget.
