GREEN WASTE Verge Collections

Our next Green Waste verge collection will take place in March/April 2024, with specific dates to be confirmed.

We will advertise reminders in the lead up to the first collection date as well as adding an area map with specific dates below, once available.

You can place lawn clippings, leaves, flowers and weeds, small branches and twigs in your lime-green lid Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) bin throughout the year for collection every week.

Place them loose in the bin and do not use plastic bags or boxes.

Green Waste Guidelines

Important COVID-19 Guidelines

Due to the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, the removal of any material by third parties is strongly discouraged.

Green waste cannot be put out for collection earlier than two weeks prior to the date collection is due to commence in your area and must be out by 6am on the Monday of your area’s collection week. This will help ensure the health and safety of residents and our collection contractors.

How to prepare for Green Waste Collection

What you should do:

  • Green waste is free of contamination such as soil, general waste and recyclable material
  • All prunings/branches/logs have:
    • Maximum length of 1.5m (5ft).
    • Maximum diameter of 30cm (12inches).
    • Maximum height of pile1.5m (5ft).
  • Logs are stacked neatly next to prunings and branches. No mixed piles.

What you should not do:

  • Do not place green waste in hessian or plastic bags of any kind, these will not be collected.
  • Do not prune any street or verge trees.
  • Do not place items near or obstruct any reticulation, street signs/poles, water meters, fences, footpaths or driveways.
  • Do not place items on vacant lots, on roads, reserves, parks or any verge except your own.
  • Do not place any items on the verge that are not green waste material – no household junk, furniture, sawn or treated timber. This is littering and you could be fined.

Please note: Verge collections are for residential properties only.

Green Waste Bags

As a COVID-19 safety precaution for residents and contractors, the City is no longer offering green waste bags for smaller materials.

These bags were offered for collection of smaller materials such as leaves, weeds and lawn clippings. However, these materials can now be disposed of in your lime-green lid FOGO bin throughout the year.

Did you know?

Loose leaf litter, grass clippings and small prunings can be placed in your lime-green lid FOGO bin all year round, along with your food scraps and other organic materials. These materials will be collected every week and turned into high quality compost.
