GREEN WASTE Verge Collections

The City offers a free collection of green waste to residents each year. This is in addition to the weekly green-lid FOGO bin which can be used for garden clippings.

To find out when your collection will be in 2024, please check the map below.

Green waste guidelines

When should I place my green waste out?

Green waste cannot be put out for collection earlier than two weeks prior to the date collection is due to commence in your area and must be out by 6am on the Monday of your area’s collection week. This will help ensure the health and safety of residents and our collection contractors.

How to prepare for green waste collection

What you should do:

  • Green waste is free of contamination such as soil, general waste and recyclable material
  • All prunings/branches/logs have:
    • Maximum length of 1.5m (5ft).
    • Maximum diameter of 30cm (12inches).
    • Maximum height of pile1.5m (5ft).
  • Logs are stacked neatly next to prunings and branches. No mixed piles.

What you should not do:

  • Do not place green waste in hessian or plastic bags of any kind, these will not be collected.
  • Do not prune any street or verge trees.
  • Do not place items near or obstruct any reticulation, street signs/poles, water meters, fences, footpaths or driveways.
  • Do not place items on vacant lots, on roads, reserves, parks or any verge except your own.
  • Do not place any items on the verge that are not green waste material – no household junk, furniture, sawn or treated timber. This is littering and you could be fined.

Please note: Verge collections are for residential properties only.

Loose leaf litter, grass clippings, weeds and small prunings can be placed in your lime-green lid FOGO bin all year round, along with your food scraps and other organic materials. These materials will be collected every week and turned into high quality compost.
