Our multicultural community

The City of Vincent proudly celebrates the cultural diversity of its community and recognises it as one of our greatest strengths. Our suburbs are home to people from a wide range of backgrounds, languages, traditions, and belief systems, all of which contribute to our vibrant, resilient, and inclusive community. We believe that everyone, regardless of where they were born or what language they speak, should feel welcome, valued, and able to thrive in Vincent.

People from all over the world call the City of Vincent home and the many cultures represented make our community a more vibrant and enjoyable place. The predominant culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) groups in the Vincent are Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese (including Mandarin and Cantonese), Spanish and Greek.

Multicultural Vincent

The City of Vincent is a proudly multicultural community, enriched by the customs, stories, and traditions of people from all over the world. This diversity is reflected in the vibrant events and initiatives that bring our community together, from the colourful celebrations of Harmony Week and Lunar New Year to community led festivals, food markets, and cultural exhibitions. Vincent’s public spaces showcase artworks and performances that reflect our rich cultural heritage. These highlights not only celebrate our diversity but foster understanding, connection, and a deep sense of belonging across the community.

Some of the City’s multicultural highlights include the vibrant stretch of William Street often referred to as the unofficial ‘Chinatown’, the Vietnamese Monument of Gratitude, the peaceful Chanh Giac Temple, the  Multicultural Gardens in North Perth, and the historic Perth Mosque, each reflecting the cultural richness and diversity of our community.

The Office of Multicultural Interests ‘Discover Multicultural Perth: Northbridge Trail’ is a great way to visit some of these sites and learn more about their significance.

Our Local History Centre also has a wealth of information about early migration and the history of multiculturalism in Vincent.
