IMPROVEMENTS TO PARKING IN NORTH PERTH

North Perth Town Centre is growing and pressure on parking in recent years has increased.

We undertook parking occupancy surveys in 2016 which told us that we needed to update the way we manage parking.

Together with the North Perth community we proposed parking restrictions designed to increase access to the town centre for all users.

In March 2017 Council endorsed parking restrictions. The minutes of the March meeting can be viewed on the City's agenda & minutes page.

What’s happening?

We’ve taken a holistic approach to make parking easier.

We’ve introduced a mixture of two, three and five hour restrictions for on street parking during business hours (8am – 6pm) to increase the available parking during the day.

We’ve also introduced paid parking in the View, Rosemount Hotel and Wasley Street car parks between 7am and midnight to increase the turnover and availability of bays during both the day and night time business hours.

When will this happen?

We’ve been preparing and installing the signage during May and June 2017. The restrictions will come into effect from 1 July 2017.

Parking Permits

Commercial Parking Permit

Commercial parking permits allow business owners and employees to park in areas where there are parking restrictions. Permits are valid for one year from the date they are issued and need to be renewed annually.

If you would like to obtain a commercial parking permit visit the Commercial Parking Permit Application page and submit the online form.

Residential Parking Permit

If you already have a parking permit there is no need to apply for a new one. As of November 2020 the City has implemented electronic residential parking permits.

If you don't currently have a parking permit and would like to get one please visit the Residential Parking Permit Application page.

How else can I get there?

Want to visit North Perth town centre and surrounds? There are a number of venues, events and facilities within the town centre which attract residents, businesses and visitors and increases pressure on parking in the area during peak periods.

Many of the trips we make can be made without the use of the car. For half of the trips we make it is just as easy and often quicker, cheaper, better for our health and better for the environment to use travelSmart options. North Perth currently has a finite amount of on and off street car parking. To help reduce the pressure on parking during peak periods the City encourages all residents, employees and visitors to use TravelSmart options.

North Perth has many TravelSmart options including:

  • Dedicated bus lanes on Fitzgerald Street (route 19, 360, 361, 362 & 960 - high frequency super bus)
  • Charles Street high frequency bus (routes 970 & 990)
  • Charles Street bus routes (384, 386, 387, 388 & 389)
  • Perth Bicycle Network route
  • Local Bicycle Friendly Route
  • Maintained walking friendly pedestrian footpaths
