Open Streets Events

Hosting a street event is a great way to get to know your neighbours in a fun and casual environment. The City of Vincent wants to make it as easy as possible for you to close the road and organise an event on the street, so you can focus on the best bit: meeting new people and getting to know your neighbours better. We can help with both the practical, and, in some cases, also the financial aspect of the event.

Open Streets Process

If you are planning on hosting a small event with less than 500 people, or a neighbourhood event with between 500-1500 people our Community Development team can help guide you through all the necessary practical steps.

The main steps to planning an open streets event are:

  1. Contact the City to discuss your proposed event and what support we can provide
  2. Plan your party and get support from your neighbours (you need approval from at least 2/3 households within the road closure area)
  3. Complete an Application for Order for Road Closure and submit this to the City
  4. Complete the Open Streets Event Application and the Open Streets Grant Application online (see below) 

This application form is designed specifically for local, neighbourhood events for up to 1,500 people that involve a road closure.

Road Closure Funding

For events of less than 500 people, please note that the following restrictions apply should you wish to receive funding or in-kind support for your road closure:

  • Road closure maximum time of 4 hours
  • Event must finish by 10pm
  • Event cannot occur on a public holiday
  • Event must be held on a local or access level road where only a simple road closure is required

If your event does not comply with these restrictions, our Community Partners team will still be happy to assist you with the planning process but the event organisers will need to fund the road closure costs.

More flexibility is available for funding of road closures for events of between 500-1500 people, please contact the Community Development team to discuss.

Let’s Talk Grants

We have even better news: your event may be eligible for community funding through our Community Support Open Streets Grants. Our grants can cover a variety of costs such as public liability, catering, security, entertainment, equipment, road closure, traffic management, and sundries.
