Sun, fun and free events in Vincent

The big blue head sculpture on the corner of Vincent and Loftus Streets has turned yellow to celebrate the launch of our free outdoor events season.

“We host so many fantastic and free outdoor events in Vincent during the warmer months. So we’ve given Beseech, also known as the Big Blue Head, a yellow, sunny makeover to celebrate and promote this to our community,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“We reached out to Ken Sealey, the artist who created Beseech, and he gave us his support to re-imagine his artwork with a lick of bright yellow paint during our events season. Night or day, the Big Yellow Head will be either shining in the sun or the zinc on his nose will be glowing in the dark!”

The Vincent events season features over 50 events at venues across Leederville, North Perth, Mount Lawley, West Perth, Northbridge and Mount Hawthorn. All the events listed on events.vincent.wa.gov.au are free and are proudly supported or delivered by the City of Vincent.

“Our Vincent Events calendar provides a diverse offering of free entertainment and activities to bring our community together, entertain both kids and adults and makes the most of our lush parks and meeting places,” said Mayor Cole.

Events in December include skateboarding clinics, Carols by Candlelight events in Braithwaite Park and Hyde Park and the start of a series of free outdoor movies.

“The WA Housing Centre will be transforming some of our parks into outdoor cinemas over the summer season, beginning with the classic family movie “The Muppet Christmas Carol” in Hyde Park on 23 December. We’re showing a fun range of new and old favorites including Moana and The Secret Life of Pets, ET, Back to the Future and the Princess Bride.”

“In February, we’ll be closing the streets to cars again with the return of the Leedy Streets Open series of events and welcoming Fringe World back to Leederville as Leederville Connect presents Leedypalooza,” she said.
