Safe Active Streets - Phase Two Update

Published on Tuesday, 17 April 2018 at 3:30:25 PM

As part of the 2017/18 Capital Works program we wish to advise that the City will soon be commencing works on Phase Two of the Safe Active Streets project on Shakespeare, Scott, Richmond and Bourke Streets.

Phase Two of he project involves:

  • Widening the median crossing at Scarborough Beach Road and Shakespeare Streets;
  • Delineating the parking to either the east or west sides of the streets;
  • Relaying of red asphalt carriageway to delineate the shared space;
  • Relaying of gray asphalt to delineate parking areas;
  • Creating tree wells and planting of trees;
  • Creating of planted nibs with shrubs;
  • Creating ‘one way’ slow points; and
  • Changing the priority at two intersections – Marian and Tennyson Streets.

Works to remove kerbing at intersections will commence in the week commencing 16 April and traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access is maintained.

To minimise the disturbance to Aranmore Catholic College, the City is aiming to complete the major roadworks between Salisbury and Marian Streets during the April school holidays. Due to the nature of some of the works, there will be limited access points and Traffic Management will be in place when school resumes on Monday 30 April.

All works, including the Richmond and Bourke Street connections, are due to be finished in July 2018.
