New youth skate space coming to Vincent

Aspiring skaters in Vincent will be treated to a youth skate space at Britannia Reserve.

Skate Sculpture has developed a plan for the Mt Hawthorn Youth Skate Space to cater for Vincent’s thriving population of children and teenagers.

It includes a mini ramp, quarter pipe, pyramid box, ride up rail, pump bump, log seating and a shade structure with picnic benches and greenery.

Vincent’s Public Open Space Strategy identified the need for more accessible youth play and recreation facilities in Leederville and Mt Hawthorn.

A $200,000 election commitment from Hon. John Carey MLA, State Member for Perth for a skate and scooter facility brought the project to life.

Vincent is contributing $30,000 towards delivering the skate space with an estimated 350sqm footprint.

Comments attributed to Hon. John Carey MLA:

“It is brilliant to see this project has received significant positive feedback from the local community – and has been designed and developed in strong consultation with young people who will ultimately use it,” said Mr Carey.

“This project is about creating a fun, safe outdoor recreation facility for kids – to cater for this booming demographic in Mt Hawthorn and North Perth.

“I am very happy to have been able to a secure a $200,000 commitment for this project at the last election and can’t wait for construction to begin.”

Comments contributed to Mayor Emma Cole:

“The construction of the youth skate space at Britannia Reserve next year will be welcomed by many local children who have been super excited for this,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“It will be a fun addition to our existing community facilities and upgraded lights at Britannia.

“I am looking forward to seeing new little skaters learn the basics and our teenagers improving their skills at the skate space next year.”

The development of the youth skate space aligns with the Youth Action Plan 2023-2026 which includes focus areas to support young people to be strong, safe and active and provide opportunities for them to connect with each other and the broader community.

The Youth Action Plan 2023-2026 was endorsed by Council at the December council meeting.
