Imagine Vincent: The Sequel begins

Four years on from the biggest engagement project in Vincent’s history, the time has come to ask the community to refresh its vision and desires over the next 10 years as part of Imagine Vincent: The Sequel.

In 2017, the City of Vincent consulted thousands of residents, businesses, schools and seniors on how they would like to see Vincent in 10 years’ time and what their needs and desires were.

Several events and stalls were held at local businesses, small bars, schools, retirement homes, shopping centres and markets to get to the bottom of this question: What do you see when you Imagine Vincent over the next 10 years?

More than 4000 thoughts, ideas and aspirations were gathered and formed part of the Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028.

The plan detailed the community priorities which include an enhanced environment, accessible city, connected community, thriving places, sensitive design and innovative and accountable local government.

The community also came up with a vision for the plan through a deep dive into the feedback by a community panel: “In 2028, the City of Vincent is a leafy and vibrant 24 hours city, which is synonymous with quality design and sustainability. Its diverse population is supported in their innovative endeavours by a Council that says YES!”

Four years on, we now want to check in with the local community about whether their vision and priorities are still relevant, what they would like to see more of, what we are doing right and where we can improve and any new issues that needs action.

Mayor Emma Cole encouraged the community to get on board on the next consultation ride as part of Imagine Vincent: The Sequel.

“Imagine Vincent: The Sequel could only be a success with the help of people who took part in the massive consultation in 2017 and new residents wanting to make a difference and set the tone for Vincent’s future,” she said.

“Like any sequel, whether it be a blockbuster film, TV series or video game, we are continuing the story of life in Vincent.

“Four years ago, we talked with thousands of locals, businesses and schools and reached out to people of all ages and walks of life in Vincent to form the Strategic Community Plan, which guides our Council’s long-term decision-making, and now it is time for a review of this important plan.

“We want to hear from as many community members as we can, so we can all test the ideas, thoughts and aspirations of 2017 and gather new feedback.

“We know that leafy streets, sustainable environmental initiatives, transparency and vibrant spaces are highly-valued by our community.

“It seems these aspirations hold true today, but we want to check in with you at this crucial time as a lot has changed since 2017.

“We are now facing tougher times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ever-changing economic conditions and working patterns so it is crucial that we make our 10-year vision and plan to reflect on our current landscape, what we want Vincent to look like in the future and how we are going to get there.”

Through Imagine Vincent: The Sequel, a major review of the Strategic Community Plan is underway and several workshops will be held from March to May at various locations.

There will also be spot surveys in popular locations and at community-run and library events, an online survey on the Imagine Vincent website and packs provided to community members to host conversations.

Under the Local Government Act 1995, Vincent is required to undertake a major review of the SCP every four years.

The current SCP is for the period 2018-2028 and once revised will be for the period 2022-2032.
