Help shape vision for arts and culture in Vincent

The local arts community can now help create a vision for arts and culture in Vincent as part of the development of a five-year plan.

Vincent is home to many bold murals, unique sculptures, art studios, contemporary galleries, live music venues, musicians, artists and creative industries.

The City of Vincent is now seeking the community’s help in developing its second Arts Plan, covering 2022 – 2027.

The plan aims to develop a clear vision for creative arts in Vincent and continue to deliver public art, inclusion of art in built form, opportunities for local artists and creative spaces.

In April, City of Vincent staff and Council Members will visit popular locations to talk to the community about all things arts and encourage new ideas through an online ideas wall on the Imagine Vincent website.

Mayor Emma Cole encouraged members of the arts and creative industries to get on board and have their say on the future of arts in Vincent.

“The arts plays a vital role in creating Vincent’s thriving community and helps to create a sense of belonging that contributes to our community identity and the culture of our places,” she said.

“Public art allows for reflection, connection and even debate. Art can capture a moment in history, add to the character of our town centres and neighbourhoods, or become an engaging part of our daily lives.

“We are lucky to have a range of creative spaces in Vincent, such as live music venues, galleries and studios.

“Opportunities to interact with art and creative venues should be accessible and enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and diversity in our community.

“We want to hear from our community on what makes the arts important to them and how arts support, infrastructure and investment should be prioritised over the next five years.”

The plan stems from the Connected Community priority in the Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028.

The community can provide feedback via an online survey, sharing suggestions on an ideas wall and contribute to the arts experience map at the Imagine Vincent website.

A pop-up event will be held at the Kyilla Community Farmers Market on 9 April, between 9am and 10am.

The consultation period will end on 30 April.
