National Tree Day

Past Event

Join us at Banks Reserve on Sunday 28 July, 8.00am to 12.00pm, to help plant over 4,000 native plants. Come down with the kids and the dog, meet some locals, grab a sausage sizzle and help us green Vincent!

Planet Ark's National Tree Day provides all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature – we’re proud to once again be a part of this national day of planting.

Why Banks Reserve?

Since early 2011, we’ve been ‘eco-zoning’ Vincent by converting underutilised turfed areas into native gardens which increase biodiversity as well reduce water and fertiliser use.

This year will see turfed areas surrounding the oval at Banks Reserve planted up in accordance with the recently adopted Banks Reserve Masterplan.

Banks Reserve's new eco-zones form part of our wider, long-term Greening Plan whereby 25 parks and areas like median strips will be eco-zoned. We aim to replace around 10% of Vincent’s unused turfed areas with lovely gardens featuring native plants.

What will we be planting?

A large range of West Australian and Australian native ground covers and low growing species. West Australian and Australian native species are generally quite hardy, require small amounts of water and fertiliser, build additional habitat for our local fauna species and create a beautiful native landscape.

What do I need to bring?

Vincent will be providing a range of things such as shovels, hand trowels and gloves, but due to the popularity of this event if you have these items at home please bring them along.

What will be provided?

A free sausage sizzle will be provided following planting activities.

Water and toilet facilities will available on site. Free parking is available on-road on Joel Terrace or in one of the car parks at either end of the reserve.

How do I register?

Please contact the City's Project Officer - Parks & Environment, Sarah Hill at sarah.hill@vincent.wa.gov.au or on 9273 6000, or visit the National Tree Day website to register.
