2024 Neighbourhood Day

Past Event

Neighbour Day is Australia's annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

This year’s theme is ‘Create Belonging – Share Belonging’

Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support - Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

The principal aim of Neighbour Day is to build better relationships with the people who lie around us, especially the elderly and vulnerable.  Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can transform communities.

Ways to connect with your neighbours:

  • Offer to exchange contact details in case of an emergency.  If you feel comfortable, let your neighbours know they can call you if they need help.
  • Try carpooling or walking together if your children go to the same school.
  • Get to know the interests of your neighbours.  What do they enjoy doing or what would they like to do?
  • Ask your neighbours how long they have lived in the area.  Most would love to tell you the history of the suburb or street!
  • Link people you know that may appreciate each other's company in your street, or in your neighbourhood.  Connecting to one another lessens social isolation and creates a greater sense of community.
