Same Drum Music Video - Harmony Week

Published on Monday, 19 March 2018 at 1:00:00 PM

Same Drum is a music video starring a group of students from the Intensive English Centre at Aranmore Catholic College. The song calls for all cultures living in Australia to be united, accept each other and live in happiness and peace.

Sung in three African languages, Swahili, Dinka, and Kinyarwanda - as well as English, the project was devised by artist and filmmaker Poppy Van Oorde-Grainger in collaboration with the students from Aranmore. Once a teenage migrant herself, Poppy said she wanted to direct this project to empower young people.

"My intention was to give new Australians a voice and increase diversity on screen." said Poppy,

"This project is a unique opportunity for young people to be leaders in telling their own stories.”

Same Drum was released last Wednesday 15 March, marking the start of Harmony Week. Harmony Week runs from 15 - 21 March and is a time for all West Australians to celebrate our vibrant multicultural state.
