The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has confirmed that trees infested with Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) will need to be removed from Hyde Park.
Hyde Park’s trees hold a special place in the heart of many. We are looking for volunteers with relevant interest or expertise to represent our community on a new Hyde Park Reference Group. The group will help guide the restoration of our tree canopy.
Losing trees will be difficult for all of us and working together is our best approach.
PSHB is impacting almost the entire Perth metropolitan area. Infested trees can become unsafe and die within two years. We are following DPIRD’s lead as part of a nationally funded and coordinated emergency response to eradicate the pest.
The City of Vincent Hyde Park Reference Group will include up to nine (9) representatives from any one or more of the following backgrounds/categories:
- Professional expertise in landscape architecture – minimum one (1) member
- Professional expertise in Arboriculture - minimum one (1) member
- Professional expertise in Biodiversity/Habitat Management – one (1) member
- Understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage of the site – one (1) member
- Understanding and knowledge of the state heritage of the site – minimum one (1) member
- Community members that are regular users with a strong interest or connection to Hyde Park - up to two (2) members
Vincent’s Executive Director Infrastructure and Environment, Manager Parks and relevant Officers will also form part of the group.
The group will meet monthly, with the possibility of additional meetings as required, for a period of six (6) months from March to August 2024.
