Beam Mobility joins e-scooter trial

Locals and visitors will have another environmentally friendly way to travel as of Thursday 29 February, with Beam e-scooters launching throughout the City of Vincent.

Beam, which currently operates in the Cities of Perth and Stirling, will be Vincent’s second e-scooter provider.

This follows the introduction of orange e-scooters from Neuron Mobility in November 2023.

There are now a total of 250 purple and 250 orange e-scooters available for residents and visitors to hire as part of Vincent’s e-scooter trial, which will run until December 2024.

“We are pleased to have Beam on board with our trial, joining Neuron,” said Mayor Alison Xamon.

“By having two providers, this will ensure our initiative is effective and that there are plenty of e-scooters available for everyone.

“As an avid rider myself, e-scooters offer an alternate mode of transport for inner-city residents to get to work, school, social gatherings, community events and our buzzing town centres.

“The use of e-scooters also relieves the pressure on on-street parking during high peak times.

“They are also environmentally friendly as they produce zero emissions and reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.

“I look forward to see Beam and Neuron operate harmoniously together as we expand our e-scooter offering.”

The trial is aligned with the Enhanced Environment and Accessible City priorities in Vincent’s Strategic Community Plan 2022-2032 as it minimises environmental impact and embraces emerging transport technologies.

It is also in line with the Sustainable Transport outcome of the Sustainable Environment Strategy 2019-2024.

“We’re excited to be bringing our purple e-scooter fleet to the City of Vincent, opening up the ability for Beam’s riders to travel across more areas of inner-city Perth, and building on the city’s public transport offering,” said Beam Regional Operations Manager Andrew Dodd.

“We’re committed to investing in the local community, with new technology to improve safety and accessibility of our e-scooters, and new community programs to enable local businesses and community groups to unlock the benefits of shared micromobility.

“Safety is our first priority, and we are committed to enforcing safe riding, in collaboration with the police.

“We invest in rider education, prevention and deterrence, but above all, even the safest e-scooter requires a safer rider, and we ask that people do the right thing - that means wear a helmet, follow the road rules.”

Speeds on e-scooters are capped at 25km/h on bicycle paths, shared paths and local roads, and 10km/h on footpaths and pedestrian crossings.

Geofencing is currently in place to create a boundary with no-ride or park zones, for example in parks such as Hyde Park and Britannia Reserve.

Parking is not allowed in obstructing areas, such as pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and across footpaths where clearances are not given.

Beam will be working with Neuron to monitor existing parking stations and ensure the sites are not overloaded. Parking stations can be found on the Beam and Neuron apps.
