The City of Vincent has been re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council for the 11th straight year.
The Waterwise Council Program, which is run by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Water Corporation, supports local governments to improve water efficiency and adopt waterwise practices in their operations and communities.
Vincent achieved gold status this year for its continued dedication to urban greening and environmental sustainability.
Below are some recent initiatives that have been implemented over the last 12 months.
- Installed a weather station on the roof of the Admin Building to help automate irrigation systems in parks. This was funded through the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program.
- Conducted a desktop pre-feasibility study on reusing Beatty Park’s backwash water for irrigation in reserves. This was also funded through the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program.
- Converted underutilised turfed areas at Blackford Street Reserve into native gardens.
- Hosted annual Greening Vincent Garden Competition which included awards for residents with the best waterwise garden.
- Held two Native Plant Sales.
- Made significant progress on the development of an Enhanced Environment Strategy.
Through the waterwise program, Vincent received many benefits such as training for staff, data loggers to help with leak detection, educational materials and opportunities to take up liveability projects and trials.
