Britannia Reserve South Playground
Constructed in 2006, the Britannia Reserve South playground in Leederville is due for an update.
This playground is due for renewal and in July and August 2025, we asked for feedback on the play elements people would like to see there and also if it was still important to you that the playground remained fully fenced.
We heard the majority:
- wanted the play equipment to be suitable for 4-8 yrs as well as 0-4 yrs
- preferred a spread-out layout including slides, swings and climbing equipment
- would accept mixed softfall to ensure there was more equipment
- felt it was important to keep the playground fully fenced.
It currently benefits from shade sails, and the new playground will have shade too.
Project details
In November, we asked which of the two design options the community preferred and we can now let you know that the community preference was for Design Option One - Multi Play Tunnel/Tube.
Based on community feedback, we have changed the swings from a ‘basket’ to a double set with strap and toddler seats. We will also be including bench seats within the fenced area, and upgrading the drinks fountain next to the playground.

The main attraction is the Multi Play unit with stairs, snake tube slide, tunnel, wave bridge, and rock wall plus:
- Junior activity cube
- Basket swing
- Accessible rocker
- Sand table
- Whirly gig
- Stepping stones
Suitable for ages 0-12 years, offering 30 activities for 35+ participants.
This playground renewal will be funded through the City's 2025/26 Capital Works budget. Work is due to begin around March/April 2026.
