Leafy Liveable Lincoln
The City of Vincent is working to make Lincoln Street in Highgate safer, greener and more welcoming for children, families and the wider community.
Leafy Liveable Lincoln is a streetscape improvement project being delivered in partnership with Highgate Primary School and Northbridge Common. It will coincide with road resurfacing works already planned for Cavendish Street.
The project will make practical changes to the streets and public spaces around Lincoln Street and Highgate Primary School, helping to slow traffic, make it easier and safer to walk, cycle and scoot, and create a greener, cooler neighbourhood.
The project was developed with input from the school, local residents and community groups through design workshops. This local input is helping shape how the streets look, feel and work for the people who use them every day.
The City secured $96,000 through the Streets Alive program to deliver the project. Streets Alive supports local projects that make streets safer, more people-friendly and better connected for walking, cycling and other forms of active transport.
Leafy Liveable Lincoln Street will be delivered in three stages throughout 2026 and 2027.
Happening now
We are currently planning construction works for the intersection of Lincoln Street, Bulwer Avenue and Cavendish Street. Works for this stage of the project should start on the ground in late 2026 to early 2027.
Happening next
The next stages of the project will include:
- a new wombat crossing to make it safer for people to cross the road
- traffic calming and changes to the road layout to slow vehicles and improve safety
- more trees, planting and rain gardens to provide shade, support local biodiversity and help keep the area cool
- street art and public space improvements to add character and create a more welcoming place for the community.
