Hyde StREET Reserve Playground
Constructed in 2004, the Hyde Street Reserve playground, located on Forrest Street in Mt Lawley, is due for a refresh.
This neighbourhood reserve is fully gated and has beautiful big trees to provide plenty of shade, making it a cosy place for family gatherings and smaller events with young children.
The playground is due for renewal, and in July and August 2025, we asked for feedback on play elements people would like to see there. We heard most people:
- wanted the play equipment to be suitable for 4-8 years as well as 0-4 years
- preferred a spread-out or tower layout including swings, slides and climbing equipment
- would accept mixed softfall and natural/existing shade, to ensure there is more equipment.
Project details
In November, we asked which of the two design options you preferred and we can now let you know that the community preferred Option One - Six Platform (Big Dipper Slide).

The main attraction is a series of six platforms creating inclusive play spaces and activities, plus:
- Climbers
- Swings – infant and strap
- Stair access
- Slides
- Tunnel
- Multiple play panels
Suitable for ages 3-12 years, offering 32 activities for 45+ participants.
This playground renewal will be funded through the City's 2025/26 Capital Works budget. Work is due to begin around March/April 2026.
