Kaya wanjoo (hello and welcome). We are moving into the Noongar season of Djilba, best known for the vivid wildflowers that will bloom across the state over the coming months. Here in the City of Vincent, you’ll start to notice our parks and gardens come alive with colour, attracting bees and birdlife like the Koolbardi (magpie) and the Djidi Djidi (wagtail).
It has been wonderful to see the Mt Hawthorn community out and about, continuing to support the suburb’s vibrant mix of local businesses while underground power works progress along Oxford Street.
As the first areas in Vincent to make the switch, Mt Hawthorn and North Perth are helping lead the way, with the project now more than halfway complete and many streets already enjoying the benefits of overhead powerlines being removed. It was great to see so many locals gather at Axford Park to celebrate the completion of the new lighting upgrades. Funded through the Albanese Labor Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program, the project has delivered improved lighting at both Axford Park and Braithwaite Park, making these much-loved community spaces safer, more accessible and able to be enjoyed more freely after sunset.
We are inviting businesses, property owners, residents and community groups to help bring more colour and creativity to Vincent through our annual Mural Co-Funding Program. It has been fantastic to see new murals brighten local spaces, including The Leederville Barbershop and the iconic Molly’s Irish Pub in Highgate. These artworks do more than transform blank walls, they add character to our town centres and celebrate the stories, identity and creativity of our community.
The Greening Vincent Garden Competition is back for 2026 and is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the pride our community takes in creating and caring for green spaces. From flourishing gardens to greener streets, we want to recognise the residents making a positive impact on our local environment and contributing to a more sustainable future. This year we’ve added a new category, Best Tree Tale, inviting you to share the story of a tree in your garden that holds special meaning.
Vincent residents continue to do a fantastic job sorting their waste and to help keep our FOGO compost clean and safe to use in parks, gardens and agricultural land. A decision has been made by the Waste Authority that some items that were previously accepted in the FOGO bin, including food-soiled pizza boxes, tea bags and tissues, should now go in the red-lid general waste bin. Clean paper and cardboard packaging should continue to be placed in recycling.
