Vincent wins award for innovative urban planning

The City of Vincent has gained national recognition at the 2026 Australian Urban Design Awards, winning the category for Strategic Design and Policy.

The award recognises Vincent’s forward-thinking ‘place based’ approach to creating town centres that are vibrant, welcoming and enjoyable places to spend time.

Key to this approach is combining strategic policy with co-funded grant programs to spark small scale improvements that compound over time to create large scale change.

Vincent’s ‘Vibrant Public Spaces Policy’ guides businesses to activate footpath areas and car bays, turning underutilised areas into shared spaces the whole community can enjoy.

Innovative Business Enhancement Grants and the Mural Co-Funding Program provide financial support to businesses and property owners to make small-scale changes happen.

Some of these can already be seen across Vincent, with new murals, upgraded shopfronts, outdoor dining areas and small public spaces like parklets all helping to bring streets to life.

Together these initiatives create safer, more active and enjoyable streets for everyone, ensuring Vincent continues to be WA’s most liveable City.

The annual Australian Urban Design Awards recognises leading projects, initiatives and individuals shaping sustainable, inclusive and resilient cities across Australia. This year’s winners reflected a growing emphasis on community engagement, intelligent design and long-term urban resilience across Australia.
