Proposed naming of a Laneway - Yomtov Lane

Published on Tuesday, 23 July 2019 at 12:31:52 PM

The City is proposing to name the laneway located between William, Bulwer, Irene and Glendower Streets in Perth, and will be submitting the name change to Landgate.

The proposed name is Yomtov Lane in tribute to a past Vincent resident - Sagitte Yomtov. A local anthropologist, philanthropist, artist and musician who passed away at age 36.

Sagitte dedicated her time volunteering at the Starlight Foundation, teaching literacy and numeracy at the Read Now Organisation, and researching the cultural heritage of Hyde Park.

The Sagitte Yom-Tov fund continues her positive citizenship, community involvement and kindness through a range of annual awards, including:

  • Sagitte Yom-Tov Awards for the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra
  • Sponsoring the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation
  • The Good Return of World Education Australia
  • Sponsoring the Carmel School Annual Debate.

Yomtov satisfies the Landgate criteria for nomenclature in that it is:

  • No more than six letters long;
  • Is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • The name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.
