Vincent residents tend to spend more time outside in the warmer months. This can lead to more awareness of unwelcome noise, including when a dog may be barking excessively.
Many dog owners are not aware their dog is barking or that it’s a nuisance to others, especially if it happens when the owner isn’t at home.
Vincent’s newly designed Bark Card provides a low pressure way to share concerns about a dog’s behaviour.
The card can be placed in a neighbour’s letterbox to inform them when the excessive barking is occurring. Including a name and contact number is recommended because most of the time the issue can be resolved through friendly, constructive communication.
The initiative is about reducing conflict and supporting positive neighbourly relationships.
While excessive or prolonged barking can be a nuisance, barking is a vital way for a dog to communicate. At times this can offer the benefit of increased security in the neighbourhood.
Bark Cards complement the City’s broader responsible pet ownership support, which includes education, mediation and resources for residents experiencing ongoing noise issues.
Residents can download and print the newly designed Bark Card. Pre-printed cards will be available to collect from the Vincent admin building soon.
