What goes in the FOGO bin?

Collected weekly

Fill this bin with food or garden organic waste. We’ll provide you with a starter pack which includes a kitchen caddy and compostable caddy liners to help you collect your food scraps.

What can go into the FOGO bin:

Raw and cooked leftover food (meat, chicken, bones and fish)
Fruit and vegetables
Bread, cereal, pasta and grains
Dairy products
Used paper towel, napkins, shredded paper and tissues
Food soiled paper and cardboard (fish & chips wrapping, pizza boxes etc.)                                         
Tea bags and coffee grounds
Grass clippings, leaves, flowers and small pruning's
Pet droppings and kitty litter                                                                                                                                                              

What does NOT go into the FOGO bin

The following items will contaminate your FOGO bin and should NOT be placed in it.

Description of image Plastic bags and bottles
Description of image Toiletry items (razors, toothpaste tubes etc.)
Description of image Plastic bags (only the supplied compostable liners or newspaper to wrap food scraps are to be used)
Description of image Bricks, sand, soil and rocks                                    
Description of image Glass or ceramics
Description of image Hazardous waste, including petrol, gas cylinders, paints, motor oils, garden chemicals and poisons, pool chemicals, cleaners, acids, bleaches and ammonia, medicines and flammable liquids
Description of image      Medical Waste or needles

You can put food and garden organics into your FOGO bin either in a compostable liner, wrapped in newspaper or loose in the bin.
