Underground Power Update: North Perth and Mt Hawthorn

Underground power works continue to progress across North Perth and Mt Hawthorn, with the project on track for completion in September 2026.

Several areas are now fully undergrounded. New street lights have been energised, and overhead power lines removed. This marks a significant milestone as works move into the final stages across remaining streets.

Verges and gardens impacted by construction will be reinstated to their original condition by the contractor, MME, once works are complete. Residents may begin to see reinstatement activity increase as sections of the project wrap up.

As the first project area in a once in a generation program, completion of the North Perth/Mt Hawthorn project is an important step forward. It brings Vincent’s long-term vision of undergrounding power across the City closer to reality.

Underground power delivers several long-term benefits:

  • More reliable and safer power supply

  • Fewer outages during storms and extreme weather

  • Improved street appeal with the removal of overhead lines

  • Greater opportunity for tree canopy growth and greener streets
