Revamped Menzies Park pavilion to reopen in September

A new-look Menzies Park pavilion will soon reopen to local sporting clubs and community members.

The pavilion, which was constructed in the late 20th century, is used by Mount Hawthorn Cardinals Junior Football Club, University Cricket Club, community groups and bookings for events and meetings.

The City of Vincent received a request from the clubs to upgrade the facilities, with the changerooms and canteen in need of a revamp.

The building will be refurbished with a new kitchen and pantry, dry lined walls, upgraded bathroom fittings, LED lighting and polished floors.

Mayor Emma Cole said it was exciting to see the pavilion go through a long-awaited makeover.

“Many of our community meeting places are of the same late 20th century era, ageing and needing some love to keep them contemporary and inviting,” she said.

“Our biggest junior sporting club, the Cardinals Junior Football Club, and the University Cricket Club have been advocating for fresh facilities and a canteen that can compete with the finest of all community clubs across the metro area.

“With growing membership numbers, and greater female participation in footy and cricket, our facilities need significant investment to keep pace.

“This $255,584 (excluding GST) investment at Menzies Pavilion means our local sports clubs and community can now enjoy the new facility a fresh new meeting place with fully equipped kitchen and revamped toilets and changerooms on game days, for parties and events.

“When we maintain our old halls and pavilions to a high standard, they will remain important meeting hubs for our community to enjoy for many years to come.”

The pavilion will be reopening to the public in September.
