The City is trialling the use of static licence plate recognition cameras in areas where time restrictions, no stopping and clearway restrictions apply.

The trial aims to improve compliance with parking restrictions, helping more people access short-stay parking and keeping clearways free to support traffic flow.

As part of the City’s Accessible City Strategy 2020-2030, the trial will explore a more efficient way to monitor parking, particularly in areas where the City receives a high number of complaints of vehicles overstaying or parking in no stopping and clearway zones.

The cameras identify licence plates to determine if vehicles are complying with parking restrictions. The cameras capture a photo of vehicles and licence plates only, faces and unrelated vehicles are blurred to protect privacy.

The information collected during the trial will be used to understand parking behaviours, whether restrictions are being observed and to inform future parking enforcement approaches. The data is secured safely and will not be retained at the conclusion of the trial.

Infringements will not be issued based on information collected during the trial. However, Rangers will continue to undertake their usual enforcement activities.

Where are the cameras?

The cameras have been installed in the following locations:

• Raglan Road, North Perth – between Fitzgerald and Leake Streets | 4 cameras
• Oxford Street, Leederville – adjacent Oxford Yard Café | 3 cameras
• Farr Avenue, North Perth – northern side | 3 cameras
• Strathcona Street, West Perth – southern end of Newcastle Street | 2 cameras
