Message from Mayor Alison Xamon - November 2026

The Noongar season Kambarang is bringing colour and new life to the City, as flowers bloom and young birds leave their nests. It's also when our events season ramps up, with plenty of free, fun activities for the whole community.

A huge congratulations to all the winners and nominees for the annual Vincent Garden Competition. You truly are the best of Vincent, producing beauty and habitat within our community and pro-actively countering the heat island effect. The winners can be found here.

November is also Pride Month in WA when the rainbow flag flies proudly outside the Vincent Administration Building all month as a reminder of our support for the LGBTQIA+ community and our commitment to making Vincent a welcoming and safe place for everyone.

It was great to spend the afternoon with our LGBTQIA+ community, families, friends and allies at Rainbow Picnic on the weekend at Hyde Park. There was plenty happening, with people connecting with local services like Rainbow Community House and enjoying performances from DJ Yanique and OUT Dance.

Keep reading to find out more about what's happening in your neighbourhood, underground power and electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Our vision for underground power for the whole of Vincent is the biggest project in our history.

We share the community's disappointment about the changes Western Power recently announced to the project roll-out. These delays have affected not only Vincent, but many other underground power programs across the State. While the delays are outside our control, we'll continue advocating for the remaining project areas to be undergrounded and working with Western Power to keep the program moving.

In the meantime, other important work is continuing on our streets, including tree planting and a trial to explore electric vehicle charging from kerbside streetlights.

We're working with Western Power, the Perth Inner City Group and private EV charging company EVX to explore the installation of chargers on power poles.

With EV ownership growing in Vincent, now at around one in 32 people, we need a coordinated State approach to make public charging more practical and accessible.

I've written to Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson to ask for an update on the State's plans.

Remembrance Day is next week, and it's an opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

Our annual Poppy Project display will be unveiled on 6 November, featuring handmade poppies created by local residents, schools and community groups. We're also calling on local schools, groups, businesses as well as individual residents to make and display poppies outside their properties. There's still time to make your own tribute before 11 November.

This project is close to my heart, and I'd love to see even more people involved in filling Vincent with poppies.

We also partner with the RSL WA Mt Hawthorn Sub-Branch to hold a Remembrance Day service on 11 November each year. I encourage you to join us at Axford Park as we come together to remember the 61,513 Australian lives lost in battle. Lest we forget.

Best wishes,

Mayor Alison Xamon
