The City is extending the temporary closure of the library to allow a final round of improvement works to be completed before reopening on Monday, 20 July 2026.
While this means a short delay, it also gives us the chance to deliver a more flexible, modern and accessible library experience for everyone.
To help you stay connected, we’re rolling out a series of pop‑up and outreach events that offer a sneak peek at our new programs and services. You’ll also be able to borrow from a limited pop‑up collection, including as much new stock as we can put on the shelves.
Upcoming Pop‑Up Events
- Pop‑Up Library in the Library Foyer — Thursday 2 July
- Pop‑Up Library in the Library Foyer — Saturday 4 July
- Story Play at Braithwaite Park — Thursday 9 July
These activations are a great way to reconnect with the library team, explore what’s coming next, and enjoy a taste of our refreshed programs.
Head to the Library Event page to learn more upcoming Library pop-up events.
Library Services
Even though the building is closed, your library services are very much open. We’ve planned a range of supports to ensure our community can continue reading and connecting throughout the refurbishment.
-
To keep our community activities thriving Advance Chess, Social Craft Ladies, Mahjong, Social Chess and C.A.K.E. will continue over at the Community Centre. Visit Library Events for the full schedule.
-
The Community Centre will also remain open as a welcoming space where you can sit, relax and read the newspaper.
-
Our much‑loved Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime sessions will take a little break during the closure, but don’t worry they’ll be back in July. Until then, you can keep the fun going at home with our online Baby Rhyme Time videos on Facebook.
-
We have increased loan limits and extended due dates so you can borrow what you need before the closure and keep them until the library reopens.
-
Our Books on Wheels service will continue as usual and you’ll still have full access to our digital collection through the library app and website.
-
The after‑hours returns chute will remain open throughout the refurbishment if you’d like to return items early.
You can also continue to enjoy library events and services at the following nearby libraries:
