Leederville continues the Sunday street party feel as Leedy Streets Open returns to the town centre on Sunday 24 February and Sunday 3 March. The streets will be closed to cars to create a family friendly space where people can have a game of street cricket or tennis and relax under a hills hoist.

"We wanted to capture the old school neighbourhood feel when you could have a game of cricket or tennis on the street or in your backyard, and enjoy getting together with your friends on a warm summer’s day,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“This year, we have teamed up with local sporting clubs to take full advantage of the open streets and bring some classic street sports to Leederville.”

“Dress in your brightest whites on Sunday 24 February as Loton Park Tennis Club brings us tennis in the street, and don’t forget to bring your best bowling arm on 3 March for backyard cricket with Tuart Hill Cricket Club.”

Local businesses will be spilling out onto Oxford Street and Newcastle Street to bring the town centre alive. Each event will also feature roving entertainment, street art, kids’ activities, retailer specials and family fun for everyone to enjoy.

Included in the activities are collaborative artworks that children and young people can create on the day with the help of a professional artist. Four hills hoist installations will provide seating to eat or watch the action.

“The events build on the energy created by two awesome weeks of Leedypalooza, extending the fun for another two weeks to let everyone make the most of our balmy Summer days,” she said.

“It has been fantastic to see so many people in our community enjoying our free events over the summer season and we look forward to continuing to show the best that Leederville has to offer.”
