Leederville Oval Grandstand to be upgraded

The City of Vincent will be commencing upgrade works to the Leederville Oval Grandstand to improve its overall structural integrity in December.

The 300-seat grandstand was built in 1958 to make the Oval suitable for track and field events in the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

During a storm event in August 2022, the purlins and the roof sheets lifted, and emergency repair works were undertaken to make the grandstand secure and safe.

Following an engineering structural assessment, works to strengthen the brick facade and the sub-structure of the grandstand were completed in June 2023.

Vincent will be replacing the roof sheeting of the grandstand to ensure it is safe and serviceable for years to come.

Preparation works will start on 8 December.

The works are expected to take approximately six weeks and will be completed by end of January 2024.

The aim is to have the grandstand ready before the start of the WAFL pre-season in March 2024.

Vincent has received $270,557 in funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 4 and will contribute approximately an additional $300,000 towards this project.
