The countdown is on until our city plays host to one of the biggest events on the global sporting calendar.

Today marks one year to go until the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 kicks off across Australia and New Zealand.

The eyes of the world will be on Vincent when games are held at Perth Rectangular Stadium on 22, 26 and 29 July and 1 and 3 August.

Dorrien Gardens in West Perth, the home of Perth Soccer Club, has also been chosen as one of two training sites in Perth for the World Cup.

The tournament is set to bring tourists to WA and attract a worldwide audience of more than one billion people.

“We’re lucky to be in the thick of the action when the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 comes to the west,” said Mayor Emma Cole.

“The City of Vincent will provide a vibrant backdrop for the thousands of spectators and billions of television viewers around the world.

“The games at Perth Rectangular Stadium will be a huge drawcard for tourists and a boon for our local businesses.

“Having a training site in Vincent will connect the grassroots with the world’s best players, inspiring the next generation of aspiring female football players in our community.”

The five group stage fixtures at Perth Rectangular Stadium will be played between nine different teams.

One team will play multiple matches at the stadium and may look to set up their base camp in Perth.

The Perth Rectangular Stadium is currently being upgraded to ensure it meets FIFA requirements for the World Cup.

Tickets will go on sale online from Thursday 6 October. There will be a range of ticket prices that will make the family-friendly tournament accessible to everyone.

The City of Vincent offers Female Sports Participation Grants to local sporting clubs to help get more females involved in sport.

Clubs can apply for grants for activities, programs, competitions or new teams that encourage equal participation of women in sports.
