Brighter nights at Menzies Park

New lighting at Menzies Park in Mt Hawthorn has improved playing conditions for local sporting clubs.

The park is used by Mt Hawthorn Cardinals Junior Football Club, University Cricket Club and a range of casual sporting users.

It is also a popular community space, with a fully fenced playground, barbecues, public toilets and a dog exercise area.

The upgraded lighting gives teams more flexibility with training times and the option to play at night.

The new lights were turned on for the first time at popular charity footy event, the Reclink Community Cup, which was held at the park for the first time in October. They allowed activities to continue comfortably into the evening.

In addition to the sports lighting, the project includes community lighting to improve visibility and safety for people walking, exercising, visiting the playground or enjoying the park in the evening.

The upgrade is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to local sport, improving facilities to support participation, help local clubs grow and meet the needs of its growing population.

The project was funded by the City of Vincent and the WA Government through an election commitment from the Hon. John Carey MLA.

It is also part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, which aims to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.

The upgrade is aligned with the City’s Strategic Community Plan, which aims to ensure facilities are well-used and help improve the wellbeing of the community.

The City will continue to improve the park, with replacement of the bollards around the park planned for later this year.
