As this is my final message for 2025, I want to wish you all a safe and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
It has been an incredibly high performing year for City of Vincent. Most notable was being rated most liveable City in WA, and the second most liveable in Australia, in the 2025 Liveability Census.
There is so much that’s great about Vincent, but it is the love our residents have for our City that really sets it apart.
This year the City of Vincent was widely recognised for the things that make us so Vibrant, Diverse and Sustainable.
We were proud to have been named Age-Friendly Local Government of the Year at the WA Seniors Awards and to receive a Disability & Access Inclusion Award for Beatty Park’s much-loved Angelfish Disability Program.
The City was also named a Top 20 Best Practice Entity by the Office of the Auditor General and our 2025 Employee Engagement Survey resulted in a Best Workplace and Change Champion award, demonstrating how much the team care about the work they do and the community they serve.
Other highlights were the major upgrades made at several of our sporting facilities. Better changerooms and upgrades to lighting and turf were prioritised to not only benefit sporting groups, but also the broader community.
We secured State and Federal Government funding to support the redevelopment of Robinson Park and Litis Stadium and the significant upgrades to the lighting and playing surface at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, lifting it to AFL and AFLW competition standard.
Vincent’s Underground Power Program has commenced with construction underway in North Perth and Mt Hawthorn. This once-in-a-generation project with Western Power will deliver safer and more reliable power while improving street appeal. Importantly, this project plays a key role in enabling us to increase our tree canopy following completion of each project.
This of course ties in with our response to the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer. In Hyde Park we’ve been closely monitoring the significant heritage trees to minimise further loss and maintain our tree canopy, which has been our top priority.
We’ve also been running a successful treatment trial at Hyde Park and with all signs the trial has been working, we’re now preparing to expand this work to other areas including Robertson Park and Beatty Park.
We will continue to seek State and Federal funding to not only replace lost trees but to grow our canopy even further.
To promote inclusivity and connection, City of Vincent delivered and supported a variety of events, which sparked the interest of our youngest and oldest community members.
Most recently, the Young Makers Market showcased the incredible talent of the next generation. The stalls at Braithwaite Park were filled with creativity and provided the perfect opportunity to source original and thoughtful gifts ahead of Christmas.
To celebrate families in all their diversity we hosted our second Rainbow Picnic at Hyde Park. The picnic was attended by lots of diverse families and individuals of all ages for a day of fun and celebration.
We are about to see the second iteration of Perth Festival hosted at the previously disused East Perth Power Station, which showcases the potential of this amazing venue. The festival is going to be fantastic again - I encourage everyone to go along this summer and enjoy the world-class music and performances.
The summer school break provides a timely reminder for drivers to slow down, with more children playing in and around our local streets.
Slower speed is the key to making our residential roads safer and creates a better shared environment for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
Following the success of Vincent’s implementation of 40km/h speed zones on local roads, the Perth Inner City Group has agreed to roll out the expansion project next year – this is great news for our inner-city communities.
It’s been a busy year for many of us, so I hope everyone takes some time to recouperate over Christmas. The City of Vincent Administration Building will be closed from 24 December until 5 January. Changes to facility opening hours are on our website.
Don’t forget that bin collection days will move to accommodate the public holidays. Please check our website to understand how these changes will affect you and give the guys a friendly wave when you see them.
If you or anyone you know wants to know what’s happening in Vincent, I strongly encourage you to sign up to the fortnightly e-newsletter. This is how you will find out everything going on in our community.
