Works to move power underground are nearing completion on Oxford Street between Salisbury Street and Scarborough Beach Road in Mt Hawthorn.
With all major construction now complete, both lanes of Oxford Street are back open in both directions.
Underground power will bring long-term benefits to the area, including a more reliable and safer power supply, improved street appeal and more opportunities for a greener tree canopy.
Businesses are ready to welcome you back
We know the works have caused some disruption. If you’re in the area, why not head down Oxford Street and visit the local businesses that may have been impacted? They’re ready to welcome you back.
On-street parking is available and footpaths can be accessed as normal.
Happening next
Western Power's contractor MME will be wrapping up minor works in the coming weeks including repairs to the road and some outstanding reinstatement works.
Overhead power poles will be removed at a later date and this work is expected to take place at night and cause minimal disruption.
About underground power
Western Power, the State Government and Vincent have committed to converting distribution powerlines to underground power, delivering a more reliable and safer power supply while improving the look of our streets and allowing the tree canopy to flourish.
The North Perth/Mt Hawthorn area is the first in Vincent to be converted to underground power. The project is now more than halfway complete, with many streets already enjoying the benefits of having overhead powerlines removed.
Underground power delivers several long-term benefits:
- more reliable and safer power supply
- fewer outages during storms and extreme weather
- improved street appeal through the removal of overhead powerlines
- greater opportunity for tree canopy growth and greener streets.
