The City of Vincent has completed the second stage of upgrades at Robertson Park, improving access and transforming it into a welcoming and inclusive space.
The works are part of the multi-year Robertson Park Development Plan, supported by the State Government, and aim to ensure the park continues to meet the needs of a growing inner-city population.
The latest upgrades focus on improving accessibility and making it easier to move between the tennis centre, green spaces and surrounding facilities.
The synthetic turf courts have been converted to acrylic hard courts with new 350 lux LED floodlighting and fencing. Seven grass courts north of the clubhouse have also been converted into six additional hard courts.
Other improvements include a wider entrance and an enhanced central walkway with shade structures, seating and a native rain garden to capture stormwater runoff.
Mayor Alison Xamon said preserving green spaces and investing in ageing facilities was a priority.
“Vincent’s green spaces and sporting clubs are highly valued and provide a strong sense of connection and inclusion.
“That’s why we are committed to creating welcoming and inclusive shared places where community sport can grow and thrive.
“With increasing density and population growth in inner-city areas, it’s vital that our facilities can accommodate that growth and continue to benefit future generations,” she said.
During the first stage of the project, six tennis courts were converted into four multipurpose hard courts with floodlighting and fencing. This provided a much-needed home for Vincent’s only netball club, the North Perth Dynamites.
The remaining space along Randell Street will be converted into public open space with nature playground, outdoor exercise equipment and a public toilet.
