Manure/animal waste

Manure and animal droppings such as dog poo and kitty litter should be put in your green-lid rubbish bin for composting.

Mattresses

Mattresses that are in good condition with no stains should be taken to Vinnies, Salvos or Good Sammys. You can also place it out during bulk verge collection.

For a cost of $20 per mattress, we will collect and recycle your mattress. The average mattress consumes 0.75m³ of space in landfill and contains approximately 12.5kg of steel, 2kg of wood and 1.5 kg of foam. Call our Waste and Recycling team on 9273 6000 to arrange collection.

Meat trays (polystyrene/foam) 

Due to contamination of meat trays and the mixture of materials used to make them, they should be placed in your general waste bin. Consider buying your meat from a butcher where purchases are wrapped in paper or try taking your own reusable container.

Medicines 

Medicines are classed as Hazardous Household Waste and must be disposed of correctly.

Most pharmacies will take your old medicines and dispose of them through the RUM Project.

Milk Bottles/Cartons

Milk bottles and milk cartons should always be rinsed and placed in your yellow-lid recycling bin, with the lid off.

Mirrors

Mirrors in good condition should be donated to charity. If not in good condition, they can be placed on the verge at the time of your junk verge collection.

Mobile Phones

Do not place household batteries, fluorescent globes/CFLs, mobile phones or ink cartridges in your household bins. They can be recycled but only if disposed of correctly. You can drop these items off at

  • City of Vincent Library, 99 Loftus Street
