I'm Marcus Fernihough. I'm a member of WA Socialists, live in North Perth, and work as a migration specialist. I'm running for the South Ward because I'm frustrated with rising rents and cost of living stresses, as well as the lack of public services available to City of Vincent residents.
We face higher than average rates of rental stress and homelessness in Vincent, due to, in part, some of the highest median rents in Perth. Our city needs public housing, right now! Subsidies and incentives for private development are nothing more than handouts to business. This crisis can only be solved by public spending.
For the past two years I have been involved in organising protests against the genocide in Gaza. In response to the horrors we have watched unfold, the council should take steps to divest from companies complicit in the genocide and call for sanctions on Israel.
I want to fight for our community and to make Vincent a place where the needs of people are put before profit.
