Highgate / Mt Lawley Precinct Transport Study

The City of Vincent is undertaking a transport study for the Highgate and Mt Lawley precinct to better understand community concerns about safety and access. The study will also address the impact of through traffic on local streets and support safer, more accessible neighbourhoods for everyone.

The study will identify targeted transport improvements to reduce crash risk, improve safety for all road users and support walking, cycling and public transport. It will also help guide non-local traffic to use regional roads rather than local streets, and develop a prioritised road safety implementation plan for future works.

Background

In August 2023, the City proposed safety improvements at the intersection of Beaufort Street and Harold Street as part of the State's Blackspot Program, in response to crash history and road safety risks. This included investigating options to slow vehicle speeds and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers along Beaufort Street.

In May 2024, Council considered a further report and supported the development of a Road Safety Implementation Plan for the precinct. This plan will prioritise projects based on locations with serious crash history, with intersections such as Harold Street / Beaufort Street and Chatsworth Road / Beaufort Street identified as high priority.

Delivery of works will be prioritised based on locations with the highest crash risk.
