2019 Greening Vincent Garden Competition

Residents and businesses are invited to participate in the City’s annual Greening Vincent Garden Competition, which has been held since Vincent became Vincent – back in 1995!

Entries now open and close Friday 4 October at 5pm

All entrants, their partners and our sponsors will be invited to a function night at the North Perth Town Hall on Wednesday 13 November 2019 at 6.00pm, where the awards will be presented by Mayor Emma Cole.

2019 Award Categories

Awards will be presented in the following categories: 

  • Best Business Garden
  • Best Residential Front Garden
  • Best Vincent Verge
  • Catchment Friendly Garden
  • Best Indoor, Courtyard or Balcony Garden
  • Best Residential Rear Garden
  • Best Vegetable or Food Garden
  • Mayor's Encouragement Award

Judging Process

Preliminary judging will be carried out between 7-11 October 2019 by the City's Parks & Urban Green Team.

Final judging will take place on Saturday 12 October 2019 and will be undertaken by Vincent Councillors,  Manager Parks & Urban Green, Project Officer - Parks & Environment, Adele Gismondi from the Water Corporation and Community Judges Matt Drobel and Elizabeth Sincair (2018 winners – Best Vegetable or Food Garden).

What are we looking for this year?

In keeping with the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability and waterwise principles, all gardens will be judged against demonstrated controlled use of fertilisers and pesticides as well as waterwise criteria including use of native plants, mulch and other water saving measures. 

Entrants in the Best Vincent Verge category will also be judged against creative use of space and incorporation of landscaping features.

Best Courtyard or Balcony Garden category now includes the sub-category Indoor Gardens. All entrants in this category will also be judged for their creative use of limited space.

Prizes and Awards

Best Residential Front Garden and Catchment Friendly Garden:
  • First Prize $500 voucher pack and plaque
  • Second Prize $300 voucher pack and doormat
  • Third Prize $200 voucher pack and doormat
Best Residential Rear Garden; Best Indoor, Courtyard or Balcony Garden; Best Vegetable or Food garden; Best Vincent Verge and Best Business Garden:
  • First Prize $250 voucher pack and plaque
  • Second Prize $150 voucher pack and doormat
  • Third Prize $100 voucher pack and doormat

Mayor's Encouragement Award:

A very prestigious and coveted award! A quality pair of Swiss made "Felco" secateurs and a doormat will be presented for the Mayor's Encouragement Award.

Conditions of Entry

  • Occupiers of premises entered must have been the residents for at least six (6) months before judging takes place.
  • No award shall be made unless at least six (6) entries are received in that category.
  • Only properties within the City of Vincent may be nominated.
  • Previous First Prize winners are ineligible for future awards for a period of one (1) year.
  • The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence to be entered into once the decision is made.
