Homeless support and services during the COVID-19 pandemic

With the onset of COVID-19, the City of Vincent continues to support the need to collaborate and align our efforts to prevent and reduce the risk of transmission in vulnerable populations, including the homeless.

Many local homeless support services continue to operate in accordance with current government Directions and health advice.

*Please be aware that the City of Perth has suspended the homeless services accreditation site at Moore Street until further notice, but continues to work with service providers and volunteers to ensure the continuation of essential services to the homeless community, whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of clients, staff and volunteers during this time.

Research has found that there is often a spike in violence during major crises and disasters. WA's leading family violence services intend to stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic, and victims should still reach out to them for assistance. These include:

Support for the Homeless Sector during COVID-19

Department of Communities The Department of Communities Homelessness Taskforce continues to work with community sector representatives to progress critical initiatives and work with the government towards solutions.
Shelter WA Shelter WA has created a dedicated COVID-19 section on their website which is updated daily, and provides a wealth of information on how housing providers and homelessness services can best support their staff, clients and tenants through this unprecedented time.
Lotterywest The State Government has established a $159 million COVID-19 relief fund to provide support to organisations that are helping people experiencing hardship. Eligible not-for-profit organisations and community groups can apply immediately for grant support by visiting the Lotterywest website or by calling 133 777.
Volunteering WA Volunteering WA has launched a new emergency volunteering website, calling on people to help deliver essential services during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to sign up on their website.
