Angelfish
Beatty Park has developed an award winning inclusive and integrated swimming program for people with disability. These classes are provided at the same rate as our mainstream classes. The Angelfish Program provides individuals with a lifelong skill which enables them to participate in a wide range of aquatic activities. Initial tuition is provided on a 1:1 ratio where the instructor assesses readiness for integration into a mainstream class. This is achieved gradually and the instructor remains with the student throughout this process. Once integration has been achieved the instructor continues to work as an aide within the mainstream class. We have a large range of specialised equipment and communication resources as well as appropriately trained instructors.
The Angelfish Program has been recognised with many awards and grants including the following:
- Finalist in the National Disability Awards for Excellence in Accessible Communities (2013);
- Swim Australia Outstanding Community Service Award (2010);
- Finalist in the Disability Services Commission Count us in Awards for Excellence in Access and Inclusion (2009);
- Healthway Grant: Expanding Physical Activity Opportunities for People with Disabilities (2008);
- 92.9 radio station sponsorship for equipment and training (2010); and,
- Variety WA Grant for Inclusive Programs (2011).
