Food Premises

A priority of Health Services is to ensure that safe food is sold from food businesses in Vincent. Each year food poisoning affects 5.1 million people in Australia and consequences can range from gastroenteritis to death in some cases. The City closely monitors all food businesses and requires all businesses to comply with the FSANZ  Food Safety Standards.

Prior to purchase, design and construction of a food business, the City must be contacted so that all Planning, Building, Technical Services and Health requirements are understood and applied by the proprietor.

The Food Premises Guideline is a must read document that contains vital information for anyone looking to establish a food premises. It includes information on the approval processes, legislative requirements (including Council policies), and relevant application forms.

Food Safety Training

Every food business and food handler is legally required to apply safe food handling practices in the food premises and must also have suitable knowledge of health and hygiene requirements!

The City in conjunction with Environmental Health Australia (EHA) provides Food Handler Training FoodSafe®.
