Small business support during COVID-19

City of Vincent Support

The City of Vincent has been urgently working on measures to provide immediate relief and support recovery for our community and local businesses impacted by COVID-19.

The City's comprehensive COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Strategy was adopted at the Special Council Meeting on Monday 30 March and is available here.

The City is proving support for small businesses through the provision of:

  • Advisory services to assist with the completion of COVID Safety Plans and COVID-19 hygiene training.
  • Assistance measuring tenancy floor areas and calculating maximum capacity.
  • Additional outdoor eating area (alfresco) and goods display space by enabling temporary parklets and use of Leederville Village Square.
  • Modified on-street parking arrangements to support takeaway services and deliveries.
  • Increased Ranger presence in town centres to provide assistance.
  • A support local ‘Open for Business’ campaign.
  • A change of use amnesty for planning applications.
  • Arts relief funding to support local artists and creatives using Percent for Art developer contribution cash-in-lieu funds.
  • Business health check-ins to inform how the City can best support local businesses.
  • Waiving of fees for one-on-one personal training permits.
  • Advocacy to expedite Racing Gaming and Liquor extended trading permit applications
  • Recovery planning and identification of events and initiatives to assist with economic rebound.

Outdoor Eating Area (Alfresco), Goods Display & Temporary Parklets

The City is committed to supporting businesses as they reopen. To support the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and Phase 2 of the State Government’s roadmap to getting back to business, we’ve made changes to our outdoor eating area and goods display requirements and developed some simple COVID-19 Temporary Parklet Guidelines. These initiatives will assist businesses to make the most of the 20 patron limit whilst meeting social distancing requirements.

Outdoor eating area & goods display permits

Businesses are now able to expand outdoor eating areas and goods displays in front of neighbouring tenancies, provided they have obtained the appropriate permission.

To apply for a free Outdoor Eating Area or Goods Display Permit and/or make use of this new provision, please visit our online permit application page below and complete your application.

COVID-19 temporary parklet guidelines

To maximise the use of public space during the COVID-19 restrictions, businesses can now transform on-road parking bays into extended outdoor eating areas and goods displays. These extended trading areas are called temporary parklets. To apply for a temporary parklet, please follow the simple guidelines below and contact a Place Manager if you have any questions via placemanagers@vincent.wa.gov.au or 9273 6000.

The WA Local Government Association has facilitated this through a platform called VendorPanel Marketplace. VendorPanel Marketplace is a proven local economic development tool that helps buyers connect with local suppliers.

We strongly encourage suppliers within the City of Vincent to register, so we can do our bit to buy local and continue to support our business community. Registration with the platform is easy and entirely free.
