The City of Vincent is working closely with WA Police to respond to anti-social behaviour, while encouraging residents to report incidents that can help improve community safety outcomes.
The City has received feedback from residents about safety concerns in some of Vincent's public spaces and in response, we are undertaking a range of measures focused on prevention, place management, public amenity and coordinated support services.
Current actions include sharing community feedback with WA Police to support enforcement and crime prevention, deploying mobile CCTV to supplement the City’s permanent CCTV network and increasing monitoring of public spaces by Rangers and local police. Additional cleaning has also been introduced in playgrounds, public toilets and surrounding public spaces to improve safety and amenity.
The City is continuing to work with state agencies, homelessness outreach providers, health services and other specialist support organisations to deliver coordinated safety and welfare responses.
A range of infrastructure upgrades are also under way across key public spaces including Hyde Park, Birdwood Square and Weld Square. These works include lighting upgrades, improved floodlighting, vegetation trimming to improve natural surveillance, upgraded playground surfacing and new security gates at Birdwood Square public toilet facilities to help prevent after-hours vandalism and break-ins.
The City is also reviewing options for additional sharps disposal infrastructure in parks and public spaces.
Timely reporting helps police and the City identify patterns, allocate resources and take appropriate action.
While the City plays an important role in prevention and place management, WA Police remains the lead agency for responding to criminal behaviour.
City Rangers are authorised to enforce Local Laws and associated legislation relating to offences such as illegal camping, littering and obstructing public thoroughfares and may seek police support where individuals do not comply with lawful directions.
