Vincent rated most liveable place in WA and we welcome our new Councillors

City of Vincent received the ultimate accolade this month when it was declared the best place to live in WA, and the second most liveable location in Australia.

More than 27,000 Australians rated their neighbourhood in the 2025 Australian Liveability Census.

Respondents said they valued vibrant communities with public open spaces and a variety of clubs and activities. Inclusion, connection and a sense of belonging were just as critical to liveability as housing or transport.

There is so much that’s amazing about our City. The inner-city location with thriving café strips and popular shopping precincts, the beautiful parklands and reserves, and our rich tapestry of people, families and cultures, all contribute to Vincent’s desirability and make it a much sought after place to live.

This month Vincent was also named a finalist in the 2025 WA Seniors Awards. I am incredibly proud of our City’s unique diversity and inclusivity, so it was wonderful to be recognised for the support we provide to our older community members.

We have a range of groups, clubs and activities to help keep individuals active, foster a sense of belonging and combat social isolation. We want everyone in our community, no matter their age, to feel involved, supported and valued.

Thank you to everyone in our community who voted in the 2025 local government election, and to the candidates who nominated to represent the Vincent community.

Congratulations to our new Councillors Cr Con Poulios and Cr Reece Wheadon. Congratulations to Cr Sophie Greer on her re-election and to Cr Alex Castle on her re-election as both a Councillor and Deputy Mayor.

I also want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank outgoing Councillors Jonathan Hallett and Ron Alexander for their commitment and contribution to Vincent.

We have started to enjoy some warmer, sunnier days now we are in the Noongar season Kambarang, which marks the beginning of the beautiful wildflower season. Our gardens often look their best and brightest at this time of year and I was lucky enough to witness some stunning examples during the final judging of our annual Greening Vincent Gardening competition.

We had an exciting new category this year to celebrate innovative enclosed outdoor areas designed to protect native wildlife by preventing cats from roaming.

Congratulations to everyone that entered – the time and care you put into your gardens and verges benefits the whole community and contributes to Vincent’s commitment to environmental sustainability. I will be announcing the winners of each category at a special awards ceremony next month.

Best wishes,

Mayor Alison Xamon
