The City of Vincent has adopted its Enhanced Environment Strategy 2025–2030 (EES), with a vision to grow as a climate-resilient community where people and the natural environment thrive together.
The strategy focuses on three key areas – urban greening and biodiversity, water conservation and management and resource conservation and waste – with 21 ambitious targets including:
- Increasing tree canopy on City owned and managed land to 25%, with new planting to include at least 75% Australian species.
- Achieving a 10% reduction in water use per person, per property, and per patron at Beatty Park.
- An 85% reduction in total waste to landfill.
- Embedding circular economy principles into 100% of City operations and projects.
- Encouraging sustainable design as part of public and private developments.
- Improving the urban biodiversity corridor extending from Galup (Lake Monger) to the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) to support plants, animals, insects and soils.
The strategy was developed through extensive consultation, reflecting the community’s passion for smart water use, green streets and reducing waste.
The EES builds on more than a decade of sustainability planning, replacing the Sustainable Environment Strategy 2019–2024.
In the past five years alone, Vincent has celebrated strong progress, including:
- A 48% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
- More than 15,000 trees planted
- A 37% reduction in waste to landfill
The EES is also a critical step towards achieving the City’s commitment to reaching operational net zero by 2030.
The strategy is ambitious but practical and will be strengthened by a forthcoming Climate Transition Action Plan, ensuring the City’s response to climate change is coordinated and effective.
