We’re continuing to improve stormwater infrastructure in Vincent and our latest investment, a specialised drainage truck, is already making a difference.
The truck allows our crews to respond more quickly and effectively to drainage issues in streets and public spaces. This is especially important as we prepare for more unpredictable rainfall and the impacts of climate change.
With more than 8,000 drains and 122km of underground pipes, equipping our team to handle cleaning and maintenance internally is already proving effective.
This work is helping our drainage system flow efficiently, keeping streets and footpaths safe and usable during storms.
The impact so far
Our crew is now clearing up to 40 drains a week, a huge improvement on our previous numbers.
We have already removed over 50 tonnes of debris from drains in the past few months using the new truck.
The investment will continue to save costs over time and reduce our reliance on the availability of external contractors, especially in extreme weather events.
How it works
Fitted with powerful equipment, the truck uses high pressure water jets to break through debris like tree roots and sediment that build up in underground pipes. A strong vacuum is then used to clear the material.
The truck is also equipped with a camera capable of assessing the condition of underground infrastructure.
