From concept to Claisebrook: The Globe artwork finds a new home

A vibrant new public artwork could soon light up Claisebrook, thanks to the City’s Arts Rebound initiative.

The program supports Vincent’s local arts scene while bringing more creativity, energy and connection into our public open spaces.

Back in 2021, Council approved funding through the Percent for Art Reserve to deliver two major artworks in our town centres. One of these was ‘Nuanced Encounters’ designed by Cruickshank Design Studio.

The other was planned for the William Street Town Centre and awarded to artist Marcus Canning, whose concept piece is called ‘The Globe’.

The artwork was originally set to be installed at the intersection of William and Brisbane Streets, but due to cost and site challenges, that location wasn’t feasible.

Since early 2025, the City has been exploring alternative locations. After careful technical and financial assessment, a new preferred site has been identified: Edward Street in Perth, near the Graham Farmer Freeway and pedestrian bridge in North Claisebrook.

The Globe design features programmed coloured lighting (subject to approval from Main Roads WA), which has the potential to become a recognisable landmark, providing a visual gateway into the City of Vincent at its south-eastern boundary.

What’s next?

Council will consider the proposed location at a briefing on 9 June 2026, with a final decision expected at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 June 2026 (dates to be confirmed).

If approved, the artist will move ahead with detailed design work, with installation currently planned for mid-2027.

Community members are welcome to attend the briefing or Council Meeting to ask questions or share their views.
