More than 500 locals donated a truck load of small electrical and battery operated items at the City of Vincent’s first E-waste Drop-Off Day.
Vincent has partnered with Good Sammy and Total Green Recycling to recycle and reuse good quality e-waste items, in a bid to ensure e-waste was kept out of landfill.
The aim of the four-hour event, held at the Britannia Reserve carpark in Leederville on 22 July, was to allow residents to divert e-waste from landfill and learn how to correctly dispose of e-waste items.
There were 552 cars and some neighbouring residents that dropped off items on the day. The items filled a 40ft shipping container, as well as the Good Sammy removals truck.
A huge range of items were collected including TVs and audio equipment, kitchen appliances, hair dryers and straighteners, mobiles, laptops and computer equipment, and much more.
Good Sammy representatives were on site to accept donations of electrical or battery powered items in good working condition.
They received some high quality items including flat screen TVs, a guitar amp, fans and heaters, and some vintage items. These are currently being processed at its Canning Vale facility and will be sent out to stores.

Other e-waste items that were not donated to Good Sammy will be disassembled by Total Green Recycling at its Kewdale facility, so the metals and materials can be recovered for further recycling.
“We had a really strong response to our first E-waste Drop-Off Day with hundreds of locals bringing a range of items,” said Mayor Emma Cole.
“It was great to see our Waste and Recycling team and Good Sammy working hard to take, sort and where possible, reuse the treasure that came through.
“We look forward to hosting another e-waste collection service for residents in the future.”
Residents can also put e-waste items out as part of the Verge Valet™ collection or drop them off at Recycling Centre Balcatta, West Metro Recycling Centre or Tamala Park free of charge all year round.
